Music Scholarship Winners 2017

Thanks to a grant from the Carroll EMC Roundup, and other generous sponsors, a total of $ 3,000 in scholarships was awarded at the Carrollton Kiwanis Art and Music Showcase on Sunday, February 12, 2017. The showcase was held at the Carrollton Cultural Arts Center.
In the music competition, Carrollton High School Junior Blair Lipham was awarded first place and presented a scholarship check for $ 500.00. She sang "Quando me'n vo" from Puccini's "La Boheme", and was accompanied by Brenda Sue Holcombe. Miss Lipham will represent the Carrollton Kiwanis Club when she competes in the Georgia state music finals in Albany, Georgia in April.
Albert Shin, Bremen High School Junior, was awarded second place and presented a scholarship check for $ 400. He played Paganini's "Caprice No. 16" on violin.
The Barbershop Quartet from Central High School was awarded third place and presented a scholarship totaling $ 300. They sang (un-accompanied) "Drivn' Me Crazy" by Bob Disney. The quartet is made up of one senior and three juniors: Joshawa Arnell (grade 11) , Elijah Green (grade 11), Will Godbee (grade 11) and Caleb Williams ( grade 12) .
Rachel Skinner, Carrollton High School Sophomore, was awarded fourth place and presented a scholarship check for $ 200. She sang "O mio babbino caro" by Puccini, and was accompanied by Brenda Sue Holcombe.
Thalia Reyes, Central High School Senior, was awarded fifth place and presented a scholarship check for $ 100. She sang "Don't Rain on My Parade" from "Funny Girl" , and was accompanied on piano by Sydney Sewell.
The Carrollton Kiwanis Club thanks the all fine music teachers in the area for their excellent work.
