Tim Warren, long time member of the Carrollton Kiwanis Club, was Friday's guest speaker for their weekly meeting at the Sunset Hills Country Club. He has been a member of the West Georgia Foundation Board for 6 years and spoke on the upcoming A Day for the University of West Georgia. UWG's slogan this year is "Go West for A Day!"

This year's goal is to raise $1 million by close of business on Thursday, Oct. 20th. Volunteers will cover the county's businesses soliciting donations that day. Warren said 95% of the unrestricted donations is put toward scholarships. "A Day" began in the early 1980s as an annual university event, but has not been held for a few years.

Warren, United Community Bank president, let the noontime audience know that UWG's economic impact on the local economy for 2010 was $410 million. But, he stated, "The most important aspect of UWG is its effect on positive change in people's lives."   Also speaking to the club was UWG student Megan Bell who related just how much her life has changed for the better since becoming a student.
