Congratulations to Dr. Charles "Skip" Clark for accepting the new position in Augusta.   We in the Carrollton Kiwanis Club will miss you ; unless you decide the commute is not too much ?  (His term begins on January 3, 2012.)

Charles W. Clark has been named dean of the Katherine Reese Pamplin College of Arts and Sciences at Augusta State University, effective January 1, 2012. His appointment was announced on Oct. 28 by the interim vice president for academic affairs, Carol Rychly.

“Dr. Clark brings a perfect mix of academic credentials, administrative experience, and knowledge of the University System of Georgia to help Augusta State continue to move forward,” said Rychly.

Dr. Clark has been serving as interim dean and dean of The Graduate School at the University of West Georgia since 2006.  Prior to his role as dean, he served as chair of the Department of History. He began his teaching career in history at St. Andrews Presbyterian College.

Dr. Clark’s research and teaching interests are in the fields of the History of Science and Medicine and other areas of history. He has published extensively, with 12 World Book Encyclopedia articles, and numerous other articles that have appeared in scholarly journals. He has reviews for Choice, International Social Sciences Review, Renaissance, Quarterly, History: A Review of Books, and The History Teacher.

He has made presentations at popular religion conferences as well as such varied conferences as the National Association of Foreign Student Advisors Conference, the Popular Culture Association meeting, the History and Philosophy of Science regional conference, Phi Alpha Theta conference, and others.

Dr. Clark has served as vice president and president of the UWG Chapter of the American Association of University Professors, as president of the Southeast Regional Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies Seminar, America Council on Education Deans and Chairs Conference, and Kiwanis.

He received his bachelor’s degree from Colorado College, and both master’s and doctoral degrees from the University of Colorado at Boulder.
