Rachel Ishoy, senior at Carrollton High School, won first place in the juried Kiwanis Music Showcase on Saturday, February 12, at the Carrollton Cultural Arts Center.
 
Cammie Armstrong, eleventh grader at Carrollton High School, won "best in show" for her oil pastel entered in the juried art show.
 
Thanks to a grant from the Carroll EMC Foundation, the Carrollton Kiwanis Club was able to present $ 3,000 in scholarships to winning musicians and artists at the conclusion of Saturday's show.
 
For the music showcase, Rachel Ishoy performed on violin "Fifth Air Varie on a Theme by Weigl" Op. 89, No. 5 by Charles Dancla, and was accompanied on piano by Mrs. Betty Ishoy.  She won first place and a five hundred dollar scholarship.
 
Mark Jedrzejczak, senior at Carrollton High School, won second place and a four hundred dollar scholarship.  He performed on piano a composition called "Lilium" by Kondou and Konishi.
 
 
Ciara Schwartz, senior at Carrollton High School, won third place and a three hundred dollar scholarship.  She sang "Le violette" accompanied by Mrs. Brenda Sue Holcombe.
 
Laurie Ann Taylor, senior at Carrollton High School, won fourth place and a two hundred dollar scholarship.  She sang "O del mio dolce ardor" accompanied by Mrs. Brenda Sue Holcombe.
 
Pierce Huff, homeschooled eleventh grader, won fifth place and a one hundred dollar scholarship.  He performed on classic guitar "Vals" Op. 8, No. 3. 
 
The program was GREAT.  Scores from the judges were very close and eleven other participating contestants were awarded honorable mention certificates.
