Vinyards and wine making were very prevalent in West Georgia prior to prohibition, and are making a come back and contributing a boost to agri-business and tourism.  Grapes were imported from Europe by Thomas Jefferson and other revolutionary leaders, and the modern farmers are attempting to grow the finest grapes for this rebirth industry.   Scientists are conducting DNA studies to determine the origin of the grapes grown now in Carroll and surrounding counties.
