During the Carrollton Kiwanis Club meeting of Friday, May 15, 2026, the club honored the memory of Dr. Ernest McClendon. As a Kiwanis member for over 46 years, Dr. McClendon was known as an educator, civic leader, and friend to many. One of Ernest’s greatest passions was music, and he served the students and community as only the 2nd Director of the Carrollton HS Trojan Band from 1954 to 1968. His legacy is being carried forward through the “Dr. Ernest C McClendon Band Fund” which will help future Trojan Band musicians pursue extracurricular music study such as private lessons or summer camps. Accepting a contribution of $1,000.00 from the Carrollton Kiwanis Club Foundation is Dr. Chris Carr, current CHS Trojan Band Director.
I wanted to let you know that Joe Bell and myself are planning an InterClub visit to the Newnan Kiwanis Club next Tuesday, May 19th. Joe and I both grew up in Newnan and like to go visit one of their meetings each year so as to see old friends and classmates. Also, the Newnan club sponsored our Carrollton club back in 1947.
I will plan to drive - one car full, an others would need to follow. We would need to meet at 10:45am and leave by 11:00am to make the trip.
In continuation of the Club’s pledge to provide support to the children of our community, the Carrollton Kiwanis Foundation presented a donation of $5,000.00 to Mrs. Brooke Mobley, Executive Director of the Carrollton City Schools Education Foundation, at the meeting on Friday, May 15, 2026. Mrs. Mobley was representing the four schools within the City School System….Carrollton Elementary, Carrollton Upper Elementary, Carrollton Middle School, and Carrollton High School. These funds are designated so that any student with need of financial assistance may have the opportunity to participate in school field trips. To date, the Carrollton Kiwanis Club has contributed $17,500 for students enrolled at these schools.
