This is not a Kiwanis project, but it's right down our alley.
Every year, a combined community effort has been made to prepare hot Turkey meals and deliver to needy families on Thanksgiving.
Through a combination of donated food from various sources, Brad Cole Construction, Little Hawaiian and the Venue on Cedar, and an army of community volunteers, needy families identified through school counselors, hundreds of plates are delivered on Thanksgiving Day.
Forgive me if I omitted any of the guilty parties.
Here's a few photos that I snapped on Thanksgiving morning 2016. Back then, volunteers assembled at the Tyus Road home of David and Andrea Walker . (David is associated with Brad Cole Construction.)
Left: Derick Newton and ~ one+ year old Keziah.
Center: The first year that Dr. and Mrs. Lok (UWG College of Science and Mathematics) helped in the assembly line, they improvised with solo cups to dip mashed potatoes. In 2017, they came prepared with ice cream scoops.
Right: In 2016, Ray Fulford pulled hot turkey meat from the bones.
This year, Tano is donating the use of the Venue on Cedar for food preparation and assembly on Thanksgiving morning. If you are interested in helping, be at the Venue of Cedar at 8:30 AM on Thanksgiving morning. If you are interested in delivery, arrive after 9:00 AM. You will be provided with a list for delivery and directions.
