Congratulations to Dr. Amber Smallwood, who has accepted a new position and will be moving to Texas.   As Col. Frank Jones was famous for saying, "We're going to miss you !"

I write today regarding a transition in the College of Social Sciences Dean’s Office. Interim Dean Dr. Amber Smallwood has accepted an appointment as Assistant Vice Provost at the University of Texas-Arlington effective May 15, 2020. Amber has long been a member of the West Georgia family from her days as a child attending pre-K through her many roles as a faculty member and administrator. She has served the university in meaningful ways through the years, including recently in interim roles as Chair of the Department of Sociology and Dean of the College of Social Sciences. Amber also served a vital leadership role in helping West Georgia earn its national classification for community engagement from the Carnegie Foundation, becoming only one of 359 institutions to earn such a distinction.

Indeed, Amber’s professional commitment to community-engaged service will remain as a continuing legacy at West Georgia. I thank her on behalf of the university, the faculty, and the many students she has guided through a transformational educational experience. Amber, we wish you well.
