Biography
Dr. Lok C. Lew Yan Voon is a full professor of physics and Dean of the College of Science and Mathematics at The University of West Georgia. Born on the culturally diverse island of Mauritius, his higher education student career started as a Tate & Lyle Cambridge scholar at the University of Cambridge for his BA in Natural Sciences, a Killiam scholar at the University of British Columbia for his MSc in Physics, and supported under a US Naval Research Lab grant for his PhD in Semiconductor Physics at Worcester Polytechnic Institute. He then received the prestigious Alexander von Humboldt fellowship for a postdoctoral position at the Max Planck Institute for Solid State Physics in Germany, under the mentorship of Prof. Dr. Manuel Cardona. Dr. Lew Yan Voon was a faculty at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) in Massachusetts for 9 years before becoming the department chair of the Department of Physics at Wright State University (WSU) in Ohio, a position he held for 8 years before assuming the position of dean of the School of Science and Mathematics at The Citadel, the Military College of South Carolina in 2012.

It is with sadness that we announce the death of Frank Fidler.
He was born on Columbus Day (October 12, 1921) and served as President of the Carrollton Kiwanis Club during 1962-1963.
The family will receive visitors Friday evening from 5 p.m until 7:00 p.m at Almon Funeral Home in Carrollton.
Frank's family requests that members of the Carrollton Kiwanis Club serve a honorary pallbearers and meet at the Carrollton Presbyterian Church at 10:40 on Saturday, September 16, 2017.

Lynn Weathington joined outstanding Kiwanian and husband, Neil, to celebrate his being awarded a Zeller. Lynn informed us she and Neil have been married almost 5 years and he still kisses her every morning before he leaves for work.
Richard Dixon brought prospective member Ashley Weiler, Director of Development for UWG Athletics. A graduate of the University of Illinois, Ashley has already submitted her application!
Jared Griffies invited Colleen Jones, Assistant Principal at Central High School. A graduate of Berry College Colleen is a wife, mother, and an outstanding educator who was chosen Teacher of the Year.
Fred Richards brought two special friends: Dr. Mary Beth Scalice Lord and George Stoddard.
Visiting from Milton, MA, Mary Beth is an author, poet, and founder of the Foundation of Open Hearts and for 30 years has been a teacher of A Course in Miracles. George, once the Treasurer of our club, lives in Utah with his wife Cherie. George was recently recognized by the state of Utah for his twenty years of advocating for the LGTBTQ community and years ago was a founder of Positive Response here in Carrollton.
